Use Microsoft ScanDisk which is included in Windows 95/98/98SE/Me. If you have a NT version of Windows, use CHKDSK (Included in Windows NT 3.x/4.0/2000/XP/Vista/7).

If your HDD is unrepairable, replace it.

If you run: chkdsk /f /r /x

It will check all clusters on the hard drive and recover them. Bad clusters will also be marked by Windows and won't be written too after. You will see your hard drive space decreasing as more bad clusters will appear on it.

Hope this helps.

Juris.
