Question How to remove black bars on each side of external monitor screen ?

I have a gaming laptop with a display resolution of 1080 x 1920. When I connect the laptop to an external monitor, I have black bars on the left and right side. The monitor native resolution is 3440 x 1040. Is there anyway to fix it so the entire screen is utilized? My laptop is at its max display setting.
