I have 2 Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Drives and 2 Western Digital Passport Drives that have become read-only. After a week or more of trying to find an answer on the web and contacting the manufacturers I was told that Windows 8.1 did it but no one can tell me where to look to fix it.
These drives are fairly new so I don't believe it is the drives. Something changed all 4 drives at once so there should be something that can change them back.
Help help, I'm going out of my mind.

Hello, edickey21!

I'm sorry to hear about your drives and that the customer support couldn't help you resolve the issue. Can you walk me through the steps you've already taken to fix this?
I'm not sure how exactly this could happen, my guess is you've got BitLocker enabled or somehow the anti-virus software that you are using is preventing you from writing to the drives (if that is a possibility). :??:
Have you tried to take ownership of all the drives via Windows?

Keep me posted!

find out the number of the disk you want to fix by going to disk manager
open admin cmd
type disk part
then type disk (the disk number) clear readonly

hope this helps good luck 😉
