My personal PC is no longer performing updates. The Important updates is grayed out so I can't change it from Never Check for Updates. When I click on anything on that page I get a message that this is controlled by the system administrator. I am the only one using this pc. Help!

Solution

CMOS has nothing to do with this issue, sorry greengrassgamer

there are 3 possibilities. registry settings. local group policy or domain group policy.

deleting the registry key will fix the issue every time but if there are group policies involved the options will become greyed out again when the group policy is reapplied.

click start -> run -> regedit

go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\
delete windowsupdate

click start...
I had this problem a long time ago, so I don't remember the specifics of what I did, but here is my suggestion. You could try clearing the computer's CMOS. Do it by turning off your computer, opening up your computer case, and then look for the little round battery on the motherboard. Take it out, but be careful to not force it out or break anything. Leave the battery out for about ten minutes, and then put it back in. Hopefully, that will work. You will need to reset the date and time, though.
