Title.

I wanna remove it because it's causing interference between the mic and the headset, if i play music on my pc the mic is sending it through along with my voice. I'm sure this is the problem because the same was happening with my friend's hyperx revolvers but he had the option to send the data directly to the pc instead of it going through the volume control etc. So can anyone tell me is it safe to just cut the wires from both ends and just join them again?

Safe, most likely yes assuming it is a normal headset that you plug into the PC headphone and mic jacks. However it may be extraordinarily difficult. If it has a thin cord, it is likely the type with the coating on the wires as insulation instead of the traditional plastic jacket that used to be common.

If it is USB there will be a problem.

If this is 3.5mm type headset you will have a plastic shell around it, then a metal sheilding around the cable, then 3-4 wires inside.
You will have to solder all 3-4 of them back together and also have thin heat shrink tubes on them, and you will either need to not damage the shielding at all, or solder it back together as well. Plus a thicker piece of heat-shrink tub on the main part of the cable.

That is the issue with modern headsets that I brought up above, most are like this nowadays:

I think it is an enamel coating that must be removed somehow before you can solder. I think they use some form of acid to remove it cleanly but i've had to resort to burning it then cleaning it with alcohol and hope it was removed (in many cases it wasn't and didn't make electrical connection even after soldering the apparent bare wires)

The old style is much easier to modify:

Hey everyone thanks for taking the time to help me out. I have the kraken pro v2 which has a 3.5mm jack obviously. I'm just really worried to cut them cause the wire is braided and I know this will be a problem. Gosh, I can't even remove the cable from the headset. Fucking piece of trash paid 80$ for it and cant even unplug the cable omfg

Also this would be alot easier for me If I could just fix the sound leak problem :////////////
idk why it's playing music through the mic even when I hard-mute it using the mic switch. It's like the other person can hear the music or whatever's playing in my pc as if they're playing it on their own pc ..

Oh there is a setting for that, finding it is a pain though. Yeah its not the headset/mic. Hmm let me google it.

ed: this is for realtek devices, see if this helps:

If you go into the realtek audio manager under the microphone tab the second slider is playback volume. Mute that and you should be good to go.

If that doesn't work, it is how people play music over voice coms without putting their mic up to some speakers. Not too sure myself how to do that on Realtek devices but I have a Sound Blaster Z and you can set your recording device as "What U Hear" and even overlay your mic by enabling listening. I am sure this is what is going on with yours since you even tried a different headset and it does the same thing (it cant tell what is plugged by just by analog jacks).

The actual steps in doing that though is a mystery because I only have the Creative card and haven't used anything else in many years.

If you are absolutely sure it is a headset problem, send em back and get some new ones because they are defective. To play the PC sounds through the mic output means it is wired completely wrong, assuming the relevant settings in your sound options are in check. There is also the possibility it is the adapter/splitter.

Not trying to sound patronizing, but you are using the splitter right? The more information you give us, the more likely someone who knows for sure can step in and help you. Also what is the model of the turtle beach ones?

Yes, I'm using a splitter. The model is turtle beach recon 100
Also I've tried them on my laptop which have a single headset and mic port and the turtle beaches worked great but the krakens had the same problem.

Hey guys just an update, it is a headset problem. Not really a problem all of them are like this. The store I bought it from opened a new one just so I could test it and guess what same thing. Never gonna buy a razer headset again. Do not buy the kraken pro v2 if you're gonna be using the mic.

Did you get a refund? If so people here can give you solid recommendations on a quality headset/mic. I can't wear them due to a ear problem. I use a boom mounted blue yeti for my voice comm needs. Honestly though Razer has always been on my 'do not buy' list of PC peripherals.

Look at some of these: http://www.144hzmonitors.com/best-gaming-headset/

These tend to be highly recommended: https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ expensive though.

These are also recommended and in around the same price range as the Razer one: https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Gaming-Headset-KHX-H3CL/dp/B00JJNQG98/

No I didn't get a refund unfortunately 🙁 the headsets are built that way and are not eligible for a refund
I was really close to buying the cloud cores by hyper x but most gaming headsets i buy have little to no bass, I had been using the razer electras which have amazing bass and are comfy as hell. Hence I wanted to buy razer headsets because they are known for having amazing bass.

Go to your mic volume control in Windows: right click speaker volume control in system tray=>select 'Recording Devices'=>Select the mic for your headset=>look for the 'Listen' tab=>make sure the 'Listen to this device' checkbox is unchecked.

That checkbox basically makes your microphone into a tiny speaker. If it was checked when you looked, that's what was going on.
