Suddenly my documents that I save using "Save As" are also going to my desktop as well as my documents file. Is there a way to turn this off?

Yes, it saves to "Documents" and to the desktop.

Did you redirect your My Documents to your Desktop? My Documents can link to anywhere, sounds like you were playing around with settings and set it to point to your desktop.

Have you ever used something like Cobian Backup?

MS office has a setting to save a backup at a second location, buts that's the only programs I remember seeing it in.
