How to repair hard disk cyclic redundancy error

first i open my external hard disk in d: partition and when i open it it prompts that i should have to format it and when i go to command prompt and type "d:" their is a reply which is (cyclic redundancy error) what should i do ?do i have to format it ??

You do not have to format your hard drive. Cyclic Redundancy Error can be fixed without formatting. The link below will help you:

Try to format it initial, if you can. If not, then its time to exchange it.

CRC (cyclic redundancy check) error is sometimes encountered once attempting to scan information from a broken disk.
