My PC has two 1TB drives in a RAID 1 array. The computer has been unstable for some time, so I decided a new Windows install was in order. To simplify the process, I purchased a new HDD, planning to use the new drive for programs and the array for data. I had just finished downloading drivers for all my hardware, and the last step I'd planned before installing the new drive and installing Windows was to do a BIOS update.
Unfortunately, I hadn't realized that the BIOS wouldn't save the RAID array settings through the update. The system now sees the two drives as separate objects and can't read any of the data.
If possible, I'd really like to restore the array through the BIOS. It would really help simplify the process of reinstalling Windows since the array has all my drivers, including for my wireless NWA. I'm very hesitant to try to do so though, since there's still a lot of data on there that I don't want to lose. If that's not possible, I'd be ok with just installing the new HDD and trying to recover the array data later. In either case, I'd be ok with either restoring the two disks as an array or just converting one of them to a single drive. As long as the data is preserved, I'm happy either way.
Can anyone offer some advice for how I should proceed? Can I restore access to the drives with the system as is, or do I need to get Windows up and running on the new drive first? And in either case, how should I proceed to restore access to the data and not wipe it out? If it helps, I'm running Win 7 64 bit and have a Biostar TA890FXE motherboard.
