how to restore file "Open with" with its default

as I was going through some of the files for a game ( getting hints for hidden stuff in game) I accidentally had the DAT. file open up with NotePad and with that happening I cant open up the load data in the game without the game crashing.

I went to the Set Association and tried to change it back to default and I'm on Windows 10 and its having me a app I also tried using the regedit and went in and deleted the NotePad from the Open with but its still using it :/

does anyone know a fix for this?

have you tried restarting PC after either of these choices? It might be it needs one to save the changes... windows odd like that. I couldn't find any way to do it that you already haven't tried.

In Command Prompt use the ASSOC command.

"ASSOC .DAT<Enter>" will remove association for .DAT files

"ASSOC /?<Enter> for help on the command
