How to restore lost space on external HD

I have killed my external hard drive (using Active@Kill) due to problems erasing old system files on it.
Next thing I know, I am unable to recognize it on windows... so, I tried an old DOS trick (fdisk) and got back 2GB of hard drive space rocognized (out of 30GB). Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

You tried deleting any partitions and re-partitioning it? Backup any data on it first obviously, but removing the old partitions and creating a new one using the full space seems like it should work, unless there is sometime more complicated that I'm not seeing from reading your post.
