How to run a 144hz monitor on a laptop?

As the title states, I'm looking for help on how to get a 144hz monitor working with my laptop. I know this question has been posted dozens of times, but I've looked through most of them and couldn't quite find all of the information I need. I already have a 144hz monitor purchased (Benq XL2411) from my old setup. I recently upgraded my deskop to a gaming laptop, since I will be going to college in a month or so. Here's a link to the laptop (https://www.ibuypower.com/Store/ASUS-ROG-FX502VM-AS73-Laptop-KBL). As far as I can tell, the laptop has an HDMI and Minidisplay port slots. I'm currently have an HDMI cable hooked up, hoping it could run 120hz, but it seems like the monitor doesn't have the updated HDMI output needed to run 120hz through an HDMI. What would be the best cable to get at least 120hz if not 144hz out of my laptop? Thank you!

The hdmi and vga ports on that monitor do not support 120 or 144hz. Those refresh rates are only supported on the dl dvi-d port. There are displayport to dl dvi-d adapters but they cost ~$100 and don't always work.
TL😀R there is no reliable way to do what you are wanting with that monitor and laptop.

Also, I'm relatively sure that the HDMI port in my laptop is capable of running 120hz since I have a 1060, but not the monitor. If I got a DVI-D to HDMI cable, would that be able to run 120hz? Thanks!

It would have to be HDMI 2.0 to DL(Dual Linkl DVI-D and they don't make them as I never seen . If they did they'd likely suffer the same issues as Displayport to DL DVI-D.
That dp to dl dvi-d adapter may work it may not. Everything I have read about them has shown them to be fairly fickle.

Hmm, looks like I'll have to try to find a reiable mini displayport to DL DVI cable. Thanks for the help!
