With a full Windows OS?
Short answer - No.

Long answer - It might be a little bit possible from a large enough USB, but it will be desperately slow, and you need a whole other PC to set it up.

Why not just get another drive for this laptop?

yumi is a free software that will allow you to download several free OSes to a usb to use your laptop with.
Just don't expect windows quality here but you can easily use them to browse the web or do your everyday tasks.
Going with an ubunu version is probably the easiest since there is the most amount of info for it on the web.
