I downloaded Memtest 86+ as an ISO file and put it on a bootable CD but when I tried to boot off the CD nothing happened, just looked like it was hung up and so I just restart the machine. How do you run this program? Thanks

A common problem: you don't put the .iso file onto a CD, you make a CD from the .iso image file. The .iso file describes the whole CD.

In Nero, rather than opening a new project and adding the .iso file, you just open the .iso file directly using the File/Open menu.

I'm using Roxio's Media Creator 8, don't have Nero. I cannot find an File/Open option for the ISO file. When I do File/Open in Windows Explorer only the ISO file comes up. Under the a Burn option I can choose what files to burn and see all the Files making up the ISO but I can't figure out a way to copy them to the CD, only the ISO file burns. The ISO file is on the CD but again there is no way seeing the files making up the ISO image. When I Click on the ISO file I downloaded if just comes up again. Is there a difference between copying and burning an ISO file? Thanks

Yes. There should be instructions in Roxio's help on how to burn a .iso image. An image file is like a kit -- it contains both the parts and the "instructions" on how to assemble the parts into a CD. If you just copy the .iso file, the CD never gets "assembled", you've just got another copy of the kit. Burning the .iso file directly uses the .iso file's "instructions" to create the desired CD.

Well if Easy Media Creator will burn from an ISO file, I couldn't figure it out. I did find a small free program called BurnCDCC that created the CD and am running MEMtest now. Time to dump EMC but need to find a program that will burn data CD and create ISO files. The music player I use, Media Monkey, will rip and burn CDs but doesn't use CDDB to auto tag the mp3 files and because most of the music I listen to now is isn't very popular, they often don't have the info. Looked at Nero but you have to pay extra for mp3, which I like because you can get the info from Gracenote CDDN. Appreciate all your help, you info really helped me figure out what I wanted to do. If you need coasters, have quite of few from trying to figure this out with EMC. This is the BurnCDCC if you interested. Thanks again

No problem, amazing how many good free programs are out there if you can find them. It ran for over 3 hours and still wasn't done so I'm going to run it overnight.
