How to run SLI without cable

Hey everyone

I'm running an asus p8z68-v (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131781) and just got my second gtx480 graphics card and was wondering how I can run the two in SLI without a cable; is this possible? I've heard rumors that it can be done but I cannot find any way to do so.

Lower end cards don't need the bridge as they can send the data needed over the PCIe bus. AFAIK you need the bridge on the higher end cards.

If it has a slot for the SLI cable on top, then it will need a SLI cable.

I believe if it's a GTX 650 ti (non boost edition) or below, it doesn't need a SLI cable.

As above if the card has a SLI connector at the top of the card you will need the SLI Bridge to get it to work in SLI. If you do not have the cable that came with the motherboard you will need to buy one. It does suck that the cards do not come with a cable like AMD/ATI cards do. It is always nice to have a spare SLI/Crossfire bridge just in case.

The OP's motherboard does not support SLi but it does have a Lucid chip, I have doubts that SLi will work properly on that board.

I didn't even stop to check that. I figured if you went out and bought a second card you had already researched if your board and PSU could handle it. If it doesn't support SLI, sell them and go to CF. Or just get a bigger single card.
