How to save a bios update and remove cmos battery

So I am using a Xeon x5650 on a Intel dx58so motherboard. Problem is that I can only run it on that board with a newer bios version. I'm trying to overclock it, and had to pull the cmos battery cause I went too far. Anyways, that caused it to reset the bios version. Anyone know a way to either permanently save the bios update or to install a bios update to a computer that won't work? (If not I'll have to keep removing the Xeon x5650 and putting the i7 920 I have back in to update the bios)

check that there not a jumper keeping the bios from being written too. once the right bios file is written to it it should be permanent. if you remove the cmos battery all you should lose is the setting you changed and the mb should default back to default settings.
