I am trying to back up a book as I work on my manuscript. I have a MacBook Pro and purchased a Seagate terabyte external drive but cannot get it to save. It says to check memory (drive is brand new) and make sure it's not write-protected. What can I do? Help! Thanks!

Solution
Another option is to format the drive as exFAT (depending on the age of your MacBook Pro). If the drive is going to be used exclusively on a Mac then you could use the Mac file system when you format the drive. If you plan to share the drive between a Mac and a PC then use either FAT32 or exFAT.
