Trying to scan a page from the phone book, I want the final product to be a
gif file.

When I scan , I seem to get some of the opposite page
since the paper is so thin.

Short of scanning and doing an ocr and then saving to giff, is there any
tricks I should try ?

Thanks

JJ

Black paper behind the page you're scanning.

I presume you're scanning in black & white mode (1 bit per pixel)? Try
reducing the threshold value - so that it has to be blacker to score a '1'.
Hopefully you'll still get the side the want without the stuff on the back.
