How to script production ?

Hi !

I really like this game, Civilization.

After Civilization I, I bought Civ 3 Conquest. which is greatly
improved, particulary in game ergonomy.

I like to play great maps, with many cities...
But it's really a pain each turn to choose a new production for a lot of
cities.

It's why I wonder if there is any way to script the order of production.
I alway choose to product things in the same order (ie : coliseum, then
temple...).

If somebody knows how to achieve that...

Thanks in advance.
Chris.

You can make a text file that contains a list of what to build. That's your
master queue. Then you still have to load it for each city. I've never
bothered much with it so don't know how well it would work... especially is
you change your mind 1/2 way or something.

Instructions are in one of the readme files... possible the VC3 one.

You can't quite create a universal, always used script for new
cities. But the governor will tend to follow the pattern you set in
build orders.

The governor doesn't follow it perfectly.

What I do is set a queue -- you can give orders to build one thing,
then the next, and so on. Fill it up with a half-dozen things, and it
will save you selecting builds for a while.

I don't always choose things in the same order, so I wouldn't find a
universal build-order queue helpful. Civ2 offered one, as a text file
external to the game, and I only found it useful in the end game for
large maps. Earlier, what I needed in each city was too dependent on
the situation.

You can't tell it what order to automatically build stuff, but the governer
can decide what to build based on what the city needs. You can turn the
governer on, tell it what your preferences are for all the various options,
and then decide to change what it's producing if need be....
That I think is the closest you can get....

Yes, in C3C you can build a production queue from within the game
interface. From within the city window, use shift-left click to add
production items to the queue. Shift-Q saves the queue, Q loads it into
whichever city's window is open. Note that the current item in
production does NOT get included in the saved list, only those items
that are "queued up"

Note that I don't regularly use this, for the reasons expounded by
Jeffery Jones. I have not tried this with any major mods (RAR, for example).

Allow me to clarify. The city's PRODUCTION window must be open to load
the queue.
