How to see shared folder on another computer

I have a computer (A) at one location with a folder I need to access on a computer (A) at a different location. Both computers are on the same domain and have routers connected to a main server via VPN.

I have the folder on computer A shared and network discovery on for both computers. I've tried opening it in file explorer using \\IPaddress\sharedfolder and it couldn't see it. I've also tried mapping the folder to a shared drive without any luck.

Is what I'm wanting possible to do?

If both PCs are on same network (VPN will do just that) - can you ping one from another? That's the first test you do, Windows connectivity comes after.

It fails the ping test. If I ping by computer name it shows the IP it's pinging, but all I get is request timed out.

.... and this is where you have to start with.

You've mentioned this is on VPN setup and / or firewall - it could be configured that way on purpose. For example, it could be configured to allow only client-to-single-server communication.

Oh so I probably need to find out if both routers would support a second concurrent VPN to each other and forget about the connection to the server?
