How to set default screen setting to PC Screen Only

I have an HP notebook DV6z with AMD A8 APU running Windows 10. The issue is that when the laptop boots, the main display setting defaults to a projector that my laptop isn't connected to, instead of the laptop screen. This causes the display to be black at the main login screen. Everything else functions normally: the laptop boots without issue. I see the Windows logo as it loads, then the screen turns black before the welcome screen. I have to hit the Fn+F4 multiple times until I select the PC Screen Only option by chance.

This issue has happened with Windows 7 as well, which leads me to believe this issue is specifically with the laptop. Usually a re-install of the AMD graphics driver temporarily fixes it, but doesn't seem to work in Windows 10. I have also tried messing around with display settings (identifying screen, detect displays, etc.), and I've also tried using an external monitor (TV with HDMI port) to "trick" the laptop into starting with display on laptop screen.

Currently I'm wondering if there's any setting that I missed, or if I have to mess with the registry.
