Question How to set it up

My router is down stairs and I have an ethernet port upstairs running from the router downstairs. I was wondering If I could set up a router upstairs using the ethernet port instead of a modem, I dont want to set up a repeater or anything I want to set up a whole new connection. Is it possible?

You can setup a router upstairs as a WIFI access point and network switch. If you have a desktop, you should use a wired connection for best performance. What make and models Modem, Router, or Modem/Router?

Not sure about the bigger picture.

Existing connectivity:

ISP ---> Modem ----> Router ---------Ethernet cable going to upstairs port* -----> Your PC

Desired connectivity:

ISP ---> Modem ------ Ethernet cable going to upstairs port -----> Router -----> Your PC and devices on other Router LAN ports

*Is there a patch panel downstairs or just the downstairs end of the Ethernet cable going upstairs?
