How to set up a drive to use a password everytime you want to access it.

Exactly what the title says, I want to setup my external HDD to use a password everytime I wish to access it, as I have important documents on it, I also wish it to be different to my system password if possible, i've tried truecrypt, but have no idea how to use it, and I've encrypted it with bitlocker, but it doesn't work for my needs of keeping the files safe.

I suppose you can use TrueCrypt to create an encrypted disk image on the external HDD. You'll need mount it first before use and TC will ask for the password. Just unmount it after use
