How to set up Broadband Router?

Hey everyone.

I have a Actiontec M1000 Wireless Modem,

I just got a linksys wrt54g Broadband Router.

both are upstairs, the wi-fi downstairs has two networks that I can connect to(one for actiontec other for linksys) but they both give me the same bars (3 bars)

Questions I need help with:

1) Is there a way to increase the ammount of bars and make it faster?

2) should I turn off the wi-fi from the Actiontec Modem? since the modem and router are right next to eachother I was thinking if it would make a difference in wi-fi speed and distance if I just have the router wi-fi on.

3) Last question, is it possible to make a repeater with a motorloa SB5100U Router/Modem through my linksys router that is connected to my actiontec m1000?

I apologize for the questions it is my first time working with a wireless router and I just want to get the best speed downstairs where my game systems are.

both units are g units. I would replace the linksys with a n unit and then pick up a high power usb or pci card n card. myself i pick up a two boand unit and a two band card and use the 5g band for range.

sounds great, I have a netgear N router, do you think that would work?
& is there anything I can do with the linksys
