How to set up dual monitors in Windows Server 2008 R2?

There is only 1 display card which has both VGA and DVI. I have no problem having both monitors displaying the same screeen. However, how can I have two applications side-by-side? When I go to control panel and adjust screen resolution, I only see 1 not 2.

As far as I know, this is managed by software provided by your gfx card manufacturer, for example nvida control panel.

I guess it would help if you said what your current set up is.

The card is 1GB ATI Radeon HD 4650 and I'm using on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine.

I haven't used 2008R2, but Windows 7, and I asume 2008 r2 have an option for Multiple displays under control panel > display > screen resolution. If you cant set that to 'Extend these displays', then im guessing you need to update some gfx drivers.

Or you'll have to install the Ati/Amd control center to manage that stuff.

There is no server driver listed in AMD site. How can I find the PLUG and Play ID?

Device manager > Display adapter > Radeon HD 4650 > Details
Then it should be under Device instance id... or something similar.

Try the windows 7 drivers, make sure you have directX and other services you need working, they might be disabled on the server edition of win 7.

I have not tried those drivers yet.

I just notice one thing....Device Manager > Display adapter > Standard VGA Graphics Adapter

you need to install some vga drivers, and all will be well.
