I want to set up my TV as a second monitor and I was wondering if it would be possible and if so how I would do so using a Mini DP to HDMI lead.

Graphics card: GTX 970
TV: 19 inch Alba

Thanks

just verified with my win 10 machine. all i had to do was plug in my hdmi to the tv and turn it to the right input. then it auto extended the display for me.

if it is not working, i have to assume it is the adapter/cable itself causing the issue. i'm not using one myself but have seen a lot of issues lately posted on the forum about various adapters and not getting signals to the monitor/tv. especially with newer gpu's.
plug the hdmi into the tv and set it to the right input. then enable the second monitor in the display settings on the pc. chose extend desktop or to mirror it. that's it, your up and running

mirror will show on the tv exactly what is on the pc monitor. extend desktop will create a second desktop you can make different that first one. but once you turn off the tv, it will revert back to a single screen so any shortcuts you put on the second one will come back to the first one.

The screen which is connected through the Mini DP HDMI lead won't turn on though and I don't know why and windows wont detect it either

what windows version?

i know when i have done this it did not show up until i had the tv on the right input. only then would it see it. win 10 has some new settings in the settings app for this type of thing and it may work slightly different. done it on both win 7 and 10 and not had any issues. might be your mini dp to hdmi cable/adapter causing issues. i know some need an active adapter rather than a passive cable. an active one would plug in and boost the signal before it gets to the tv. seems newer cards need this though older ones did not.

but most likely it is the adapter and not windows. you can also ensure you have the newest drivers for your gpu just in case, but that is not likely the case.

I am using Windows 10
