How to set up TV as second monitor?

I have a DELL U2715H Monitor 2560x1440 resolution (currentlty set at 1920 x

1080) connected to my computer (Windows7) that has copies of all my former

movie DVDs on 2 internal hard drives.
Now I bought a Sony TV 32R412D with 1366 x 768 Resolution and I would like

to watch my movies on my TV.
Can I use an HDMI cable from the second HDMI port on my monitor to my TV

and set the TV as second monitor? Please let me know if this will be OK and

how I have to do it. I would only need the picture on my TV no need for

sound.
I am not very computer savy and have not much help here in a very small

town in North India. Neither the TV- nor the PC Guru knows what to do.

You don't connect the TV to the monitor. You connect it to the PC. If your PC has multiple graphic outputs, you should be good to go. If not, then you will likely need to add a graphics card to your PC.

What are your PC specs?

That's about all I can find out

If the GT610 has a DVI output that is not being used, you can connect your TV to that using a DVI to HDMI cable. Then it would be just a matter of either extending or cloning your display to the HDTV (WIN + P keys).

The computer guy comes tomorrow. I will give him your answer and hope he will know how to go about. If GT610 has no DVI output could we use a HDMI splitter and connect to the TV with HDMI cable?

Not sure how well using a splitter would work. I'd think you'd have issues with the different resolutions.

I just found out:
The GeForce 610 has Dual-link DVI
Able to drive industry's largest and highest resolution flat-panel displays up to 2560x1600.
So I should be able to connect.

Yes, you should. Just leave your monitor connected via HDMI and then connect the HDTV using a DVI to HDMI cable (no audio) and you should be good to go.

Hello, this is old but I'm hoping someone will see this. Does anyone know if you can use a TV as a second monitor if you pirated Windows 10? Or if you can use a second monitor in general with pirated Windows.
