Hello everyone, I'm not sure this is the right sub-forum to ask, but I can't find a more suitable sub.
So I'm setting a new private office in my home. I want to setup my printer to be wireless and connected to the network, so a few PCs can connect to it. The way I want to set it up, I put the printer in a corner, and attach the print server to it. So I'm not using any wired connection from any PC.
I got this Asus WL600G. It is an old stuff (I've found forum entries about this thing dating as far as 2006), but I got it cheap at a clearance sale, below $15. It's an ADSL modem, wireless router, and FTP & print server combo (at least that's what it says on the box), but I'll just be using it for the print server function.
So the problem I have, I can't seem to make it work without connecting to the PC wiredly (which is against the whole point). So first I plugged it to my existing access point (not my main router, which is on 2nd level of my house) via LAN cable, to configure and tweak the menu. Set it up as an access point (only 2 options there, AP and wireless bridge). I tried scanning the wifi with my phone, and it can detect the SSID (which I set to 'printer'), full strength. Tried connecting my phone to the Asus, and I can open the setup page through my phone, so I think the wireless function is working. Set the default gateway to my main router (disabled automatic assigned gateway). Assigned a static ip and subnet mask to it, but it won't show in my network map (network and sharing center => see full map), and the main router is not detecting any new MAC address. When I unplug the LAN cable, hoping it would stay connected as a standalone wireless router, the Asus's configuration page can't open anymore (lost connection). In a nutshell, the Asus is invisible to my network, not recognized as a separate gadget.
So my question is:
1. How do I get this bloody thing to work wirelessly?
2. My printer is a printer/scanner combo. If and when I get it to connect wirelessly through the print server, can I still use the scanner function?

Oh, and the manual doesn't help one bit. It doesn't contain anything about setting a standalone wireless connection
