Solution

First of all, your motherboard has to support SLI, and your PSU should be atleast 700-750watts to be sure. Than you will also have to buy an SLI bridge, those are very cheap. But they are required

If you don't know if your mobo supports it just tell me what one you have, and look if your PSU has the required amounts of watts. Than it is possible

The faster of the two cards will downclock automatically to match the other card.
Install both cards as normal.
Connect SLI bridge.
Enable SLI in Nvidia control panel.
Done.

PS- you can still overclock the cards, but the base clock will be from the slower card.
Also if that ASUS is a strix 970 (?) the difference is minimal.

Base Clock
Asus 1114 / Boost 1253
Zotec 1102 / Boost 1241

Memory Clock
Asus 7010
Zotec 7046

(I have a core i7 4790 and an Asus Maximus 7 ranger mobo with seasonic m12ii 750 watt).

Thanks Man. Appreciate it

Your mobo indeed supports SLI, all you still need is an SLI bridge and your good to go.

SLI capable motherboards come with a SLI bridge included.

Come on . A gtx 970 SLI will flatten any gtx 980. R9295x2 is a xfire card ,but I just got a 4k TV .I want 4k gaming.SLI or Xfire is the way to go for that.

My opinion.
I would get the 2nd 970, sell them both then get a GTX 980.
Then at a later date SLI the gtx 980's.

You surely dont believe 2 x 980's are no good for 4k gaming?

I never buy a single GPU presuming it will be the only thing I ever buy again 😉

Further down the line you could even go 3-way 980, or sell them both and get a 980ti if/when that arrives (2016 now i think), which will probably be 8gb Vram and pretty much destroy everything.

And then even further down the line Nvidia will then have released the GTX 1080 (<--- pure fun and speculation) which will be marketed very cleverly regarding the 1080(p) tag, but by then 2K will be the norm and possibly 4k.
Meanwhile back in the real world....

When I buy a GPU im always looking 1 year down the line.

Yeah.Gtx 980 SLI will be simply too much for any resolution.LOL

But hate Nvidia for postponing 980 ti release from Q2 2015 to possible 2016.But its gonna be a Monster card for sure.

But for now, will gtx 970 SLI work better than R9295x2 on 4k?

R9295x2 will beat SLI 970 in any 4K benchmark, and very often 980 SLI!!
But with the 3xx release around the corner..... maybe wait a little while if you can?
There is also speculation that AMD can/could join the memory to enable true 8gb Vram in the R9295x2!!.
But at the moment that just talk.
I think everyone is hoping that AMD can force a shift in the market, but as always we have to wait and see.
Let the battle commence .........

R9295x2 is for 689$ on amazon right now.So thinking to get it and game on.

Wow thats a good price!
If you do get that you could probably sell it later down the line for pretty much the same price lol
Things to note,
The Hawaii chips do run hot, but thats rarely been a problem so far for AMD has it? :)
ITS BIG! Like 12 and a bit inches big!
Please research PSU requirements, this thing needs like 500w or something (someone confirm?).... just this.
and have a look at some 4k benchies........

Whatever you decide, let us know, I love to see the conclusion to a thread.
(PS We all predict that the GTX 980TI will make virtually all other high end cards obselete, so whatever you decide, maybe do it with a view to trading further down the line, I personally think Nvidia have delayed the 980TI till after AMD have release their new offerings)

Remember in Catalyst Control Centre you CAN change the threshold.
So if youd rather turn the temps down a bit (AND THE PERFORMANCE 😉) without even more cooling, give that a bash

PS: Ok its warm :hot: 😉 we knew that...
but what about the performance compared to a 970??
:eek2: :ouimaitre: :eek2:

I always admired AMD for even making this card.
Because it shows brave and new thinking and not just following the sheep.

R9295x2 is an absolute MONSTER!!! Hooked it up to my 4k TV and I am simply speechless.
Single Gtx 970 doesn"t compare to it.Just sold my gtx 970.GTX 970 is a great card nonetheless...
