Hi there!

So I just built my own computer case and now I want to add a front side audio jack.
I got a four pin jack like this one
Problem is, my mainboard has an Intel HD connector like this one: http://ask.creative.com/wwimages/audio_int/xfi/xfi_extremeaudio_frontpanel1.JPG

When I wire the sense_send to the sense_return, I get audio, but if I don't, I won't get anything.
Of course I could leave sense_send wired to sense_return, but I want to detect whether a device is plugged in or not.

My thinking was that I could just solder sense_send to pin 4 (the tip) and grab the return from the ground pin, but it doesn't work at all.

Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you very much in advance!
