How to solve dns problems on my cable modem

i have a cable modem and a linksys router, and i am connected to the router with an ethernet
cable. my pc have an ip address, the router is working but i cannot go to the internet. tried to repair and get a massage about dns issues and that i should contact my isp to resolve,
how can i fix my dns issues myself

when you connect your computer to the modem, can you connect to the internet?
