How to split disk space in dell laptop

Hello,

i have bought a DELL XPS 15.6" laptop. I have only 2 drives in it. One is C Drive and the other has MS Office 2010 backup. Now I want to know how to split the hard drive into more disks like D E F..etc. Win 7 64-bit OS

Are you sure it's two drives and not two partitions on the same drive? Anyhow, you will need to use disk management or some 3rd party utility to reduce the size of the last partition in order to create new ones.

Disk management is built into windows.

This explains how to shrink (or expand) a partition (Volume) in windows 7. To create additional partitions you will need to "shrink" a partition.

There is one problem (easily over come). Windows may balk at shrinking a partition. Normally caused by the Hibernation file. If a problem, just need to temporailly disable hibernation, resize partitions, then re-enable hibernation.

Added. What size is your "C" drive and your "D" drive. Can look at properties for the drive.
Most laptops only have 1 HDD and a DVD drive.

In windows 7, the built-in disk management could help you split your partition into servarl partitions. Open the disk management, right-click the partition that you want to split, select "Shrink volume" then you could release some unallocaed space to create new partitions.

Note: To make new partitions in windows 7, you should notice that the first three partitions will be created as primary partition, and the fourth partition will be create as extended partition (logical partition) by default, and the MBR hard disk could could contain at most 4 primary partitions or 3 three partitions with one extended partition.
