How to stop a dos/ddos attack?

I guess you could say I got a random idiot in a game mad and he threatened me to take my internet "down". I found it quite funny and just laughed at him as I continiued stomping him. Later when I stopped playing ~30 minutes after that my internet ALMOST entierly stopped, couldn't connect to anything. He added me on skype with the message "If you want your internet back then we'll have to talk" after which I just blocked him. I called my ISP and they said they are seeing a lot of trafic on my line but that wasn't a problem on their side and since it was late they couldn't really do anything more at that point. I have a dynapic IP which changes every time my PC has been off for some hours so the guy should have lost trace since I already blocked him on skype/steam. He SOMEHOW got my IP just by chatting because we haven't talked at all, no voicecalls at all which I don't really understand how, but just in case, how can I prevent this from happening? I don't live in the same country so even if I get his IP I can't really call his ISP because it's quite expensive just to make the call.

If you engage in any kind of communication with the person, they can grab your IP. He is just scaring you, nobody will spend their time trying to track you down over and over just to hit you offline. Turn off your modem for a couple hours when you aren't using it and by that time you will most likely have a new public IP, depends on the lease time your ISP is using.

TL;DR Don't worry about it, he is just trying to scare you.
