How to stop start up items on sytem tray

Start > Run > msconfig

Click on startup Tab, and uncheck any apps you do not want. Reboot.

Before doing that, I'd check the application's settings. Sometimes there is an option to either "run at startup" or "show in system tray". If it has something comparable to that, then disable the setting. I use msconfig as a last resort.
