I have a Dell 24 inch SE2416H Computer Monitor -with no speakers on board-, with VGA and HDMI connectors, a Rogers Cable HD Cable TV box and a Windows 7 Desktop PC with a Hauppauge 1213 WinTV-HVR-2250 PCI-E x1 Dual TV Tuner.
I connected the TV Box to the monitor and i get Video Signal BUT no audio. The compute never entered this setting so far
I am under the impression that somehow the computer has to be part of the equation mostly because of the audio card on board.

Could anyone offer step by step tutorial how to se this up to allow me to listen to Channel Audio with a USB or RCA plug connector Headphone?

Do i need extra hardware? a Switch of some kind? a second HDMI cable?

Thank you kindly

Click the speaker icon probably located in the lower right screen corner.

Select playback devices and identify which device is the current default playback device. That is where your audio should be coming from. If you have some music or sound playing the little bar should be moving up and down with the signal being received.

Not sure if the TV Tuner involves any internal audio cable connections or not.

But once you find the working operational playback device and its associated output port then you should be able to connect the speakers accordingly. Hopefully via just a simple 1/8 inch (3.5mm) stereo plug from the motherboard port or the audio card port.

What connector(s) are on your speakers / sound system? There are...

What connector(s) are on your speakers / sound system? There are, for example, adapters that will go from 1/8 stereo plugs to RCA (red and white) speaker ports.

That all said, here are two links that can provide some guidance provided you can match the ports on your devices:

According to this page, your Roger box should have RCA audio out connections. Get an RCA-to-3.5mm cable. YOu can either plug this cable directly into your hwadphones, or use the PC (thru Line-In) as an amplifier.

You can also use the WinTV as "intermediate", by connecting audio (white/red) and composite (yellow) to the PVR' inputs.
