i have just upgraded from an ADATA SU600 to the Samsung 860 EVO. right now, i have them both connected, but i'm not sure how to properly clone, make it my primary drive, and make sure everything moves from my ADATA to my Samsung SSD. i know essentially nothing about computers could use some help, thank you !

Solution
Since you have a Samsung drive as the target, use the Samsung Data Migration tool.

Exactly like this:

-----------------------------
Specific steps for a successful clone operation:
-----------------------------
Verify the actual used space on the current drive is significantly below the size of the new SSD
Download and install Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration, if a Samsung SSD)
Power off
Disconnect ALL drives except the current C and the new SSD
Power up
Run the Macrium Reflect (or Samsung Data Migration)
Select ALL the partitions on the existing C drive
Click the 'Clone' button
Wait until it is done
When it finishes, power off
Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
This is to allow...

Disconnect ALL drives except for the new SSD
This is to allow the system to try to boot from ONLY the SSD
Swap the SATA cables around so that the new drive is connected to the same SATA port as the old drive
Power up, and verify the BIOS boot order
If good, continue the power up

It should boot from the new drive, just like the old drive.
Maybe reboot a time or two, just to make sure.

If it works, and it should, all is good.

Later, reconnect the old drive and wipe all partitions on it.
This will probably require the commandline diskpart function, and the clean command.

Ask questions if anything is unclear.

Delineated sections of a physical drive.
On your current ADATA, there are at least two.
The Samsung Data Migration might not show them, but they are there.

Just follow the steps in that tool and the above guide. You'll be fine.

uhh update: the cloning tool seemed not work, so when i shut down my computer, reconnected my hard drives, i got the black "Windows failed to start" message. i think it deleted windows off my computer and then dipped, but i seem to be back in when i put my flashdrive w/ Windows on it. dont think ill use the cloning tool again tho LOL
