Hello! Everyone!
Is there a way to take the ownership of a file or folder? Recently, my mom often uses my laptop for learning. You know everyone has something private, especially for a grown-up daughter. Therefore, I want to know whether there is a way to take the ownership of my private file or folder so that my mom cannot see them easily. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

All right! I understand. My mum also often does such things. But, don’t worry. I think I can help you.
Here are the detailed steps for you to take the ownership of a file:
1. Right-click the file that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears).
3. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
4. In the Name list, click Administrator, or click the Administrators group, and then click OK.
You should set yourself as the Administrator.

Here are the detailed steps for you to take the ownership of a folder:
1. Right-click the folder that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears).
3. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
4. In the Name list, click your user name, or click Administrator if you are logged in as Administrator, or click the Administrators group. If you want to take ownership of the contents of the folder, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.
5. Click OK, and then click Yes when you receive the following message:
You do not have permission to read the contents of directory folder name. Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you Full Control?
All permissions will be replaced if you click Yes.

Note folder name is the name of the folder that you want to take ownership of.
6. Click OK, and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and its contents

You can also try a handy program called BitLocker (as long as you are using Windows I think..) To "own" a file/folder or USB and lock it up with a password. Also StickCate you can edit your post no need to triple post.

This is my personal choice to take ownership

It will add the option to the right-click menu
it will even work with files that you can open/edit even when you're admin

EDIT: I need to read the complete post before I say anything next time ><

In fact, if you simply want to make your private file and folder free from your mom, you also can make them invisible on your laptop as below:
Right click your file or folder to hit “Properties” and mark “Hidden”.
That’s all. This way is much easier, right?
