I see the Ryzen 7 1700X being sold every day on EBAY for $170. However I just checked and it is $150 currently. That matches up well against the R5 2600 with similar gaming performance, and significantly better multitasking.

eh, these statements seem to compete... given the Zen+ advantages in boost & upgraded design changes for performance, plus that they all come with a capable cooler (best stock coolers ever from a mfg) ...wouldn't a 2600 be the better deal at an everyday price of $150-160? i could see 1600X at <$130 being a good deal.

looking for 8th gen Intel K-chips as loss-leaders is great advice, cause we all know Intel never lowers their prices on older stock despite competition... from itself or AMD. retailers will take the chance tho, if they think you'll buy the other components as well. i expect to see some CPU+mobo combo deals on 8700k/8600k this season (personally waiting for Zen2 to replace my 6700k) - thx for the article

With a Ryzen 7 1700X going for about $150 (NewEgg) ... that is a huge steal compared to a Ryzen 5 1600X being a steal at $160 or less. Leaked BF ads also have that 1700X at that same price.

Meh... for $600 US, I just picked up a used PC with dual Xeon E5-2690s (upgradable to V2s), 64GB RAM, 256GB SSD and 850W supply. That is 16C/32T that I can drop a decent video card into and OC it into near-Threadripper performance. I actually really wanted the Threadripper 2950X, but even without video card, could not make the numbers make sense, as even stripped way down it would have been an extra $1000-$1500... for an extra 20% more performance. There was a second one of those Xeons available at the same price, but I couldn't quite push myself to buy it, as then I would need another video card, monitor, etc.

Got a Ryzen 7 1700X at Microcenter for $129. Added an Enermax cooler for $20. After bundle discount, the ASRock motherboard came in at $40. So under $200 before tax for CPU/Cooler and MB. Happy.
