How to tell if hard drive is failing?

Is there any accurate software that can measure the remaining life of my hard drive and what signs should I look out for that may point to a failing hard drive?

This does not make sense. Open up command prompt as administrator and type "chkdsk c:/f" without the quotes. C being the drive you want to scan. Windows will scan the disc for bad sectors and fix them.

the hard drive is the one included by the manufacturer in my laptop. It is a Hitachi HTS547550A9E384. I don't see how loading times can show whether a hard drive is failing.
