I have recently bought a gigabyte windforce "R9 290" and i just thought that i don't know if it's a r9 290 because the r9 270x looks exactly the same, with same size and display ports, I've tried multiple ways to find it and all I can find is (r9 200 series) so I don't know, but I downloaded r9 290 drivers and it worked so if you guys could put some input and decently quick I would greatly appreciate it.

Solution
I would try GPU-Z I linked it below. It will give you the various specs of the card which will tell you if its a 290 even if it doesn't directly say r9 290. Post a screenshot of gpu-z open if you are still not sure.

for whatever reason all the 200 series identifies that way in device manager and driver. i have a 270, 270x and 280 in my house and all say r9 200 series in the pc itself.

it's very common fordifferent cards from the same line all look alike. makes it cheaper for the brand to make a bunch of coolers that are all the same no matter if it is a 280, 290 or 270. that's normal.

you can run gpu-z to see the details of the card and then compare it to the specs for a 290 to see if they match. can't think of another way to verify as most programs like speccy simply read device manager and report. so that will only return "r9-200 series"

Does the r9 270x or r9 200 series except the r9 290-290x have dual bios, and i'm pretty sure mine is a r9 290 so thanks.

dual bios is something added by a specific brand and is not on every model of a specific card. it's unlikely but not impossible to have dual bios on a lower end card like a 270/x.

i would also imagine there is a serial number on the card you can check with Gigabyte to verify as well. but GPU-z is a good way to go. it's easy to see the specs for a 290 and compare. memory bandwidth, ROP's and so on are usually unique to a specific level of card. that and ram amount should also be a good indicator. 270 and 270x were 2 gb cards while 290 was 4gb. though there were a couple 4gb 270x models. Windforce being one of them that had 2 and 4 gb models of the 270x
