I have a friend who updated his PC because the old system failed. I have since received the parts of his old rig that he didn't transfer to his new machine. The 2 parts I receive was an I5-6600k and a GA-Z170X-UD3 Ultra. Whenever I attempt to turn on the machine it would start to boot and then die (at various points in the boot process). The power supply and memory were both successfully transferred to the new system and there was no GPU so those parts aren't the issue.

That leaves the CPU and motherboard, how do I tell which ones at fault? thanks

An 6600k is an i5 cpu not an i7...
