How to terminate UTP cable into this wall socket?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to connect a CAT5E cable that is running in the wall to the wall socket that you can see on the pictures. The problem is that its connectors look nothing like the ones i have found online, this doesn't look like the type with which i could use a punch down tool.

So my question is, does anyone know how to connect those 8 wires onto this?

The front of the socket:

The back of the socket:

Thank you very much for your help,

That looks like a painful type of jack to install. The wire pattern must match the other end. I have never seen ones you have to strip the wires most you just press the wire into the connector. I bet that is not really for ethernet but for some pbx system that uses larger gauge wire. It will likely work for ethernet but it is strange.

That is actually a multi line pbx wall jack. Analog phone system. You can use it for network cabling but it will not give you the same performance as one that is specifically made for that application.

Your color scheme is from left to right, orange/white, orange, green/white, blue, blue/white, green, brown/white, brown, for a standard 568b scheme.

This is what i usually find in most of the networks that i have came across and always use myself. As bill001g said you must match both ends for it to work. Just follow the color scheme i left you above and you should be good.

In the first picture the plastic bit looks to have an A and B option and I have installed wallplates like that myself so I know that such things exist. 😉

Thank you for answering! Do you happen to know what the drawbacks are of using this type of jack for networking in terms of speed or stability? I have a 120 Mbs Internet connection, and i would also like to use the LAN network for gaming.

Also, is it not dangerous to screw the wires down? I have never done something like this before, i am a little bit afraid of burning the house down... 😀

So long as it done correctly (as in your diagram) it will work but as for how well and at what speed will depend on the backbone, the cable in the wall more than the sockets at those speeds. Unless you are running lots of PoE devices don't worry, you won't burn your house down.

Not enough voltage to even get warm unless you are running poe. Network communication is very low voltage and will not catch anything on fire. Not even likely to get warm. You can pick those up at Lowes, Amazon, ebay and many other places, (the angled wall outlets). You can run those speeds with no problems at all. It may effect the speeds at gb speeds but not likely at those speeds. Different frequencies used all together. Just make sure you use cat 5e or better wire.

Thanks, now i know!

Great, thanks! No, i'm not using PoE.
