How to test hitachi ultrastar

Hello,

I recently purchased a Hitachi Ultrastar 600gb off ebay.

My freind says I need a SAS controller to use it. All I want to do is boot it up to see if it's DOA or not.

But there are many different SAS controllers at many different prices.

Could anyone show me which one I need? I will be testing the hard drive on my regular PC.

If you need any more information on this let me know.

Please forgive my lack of knowledge about this subject, my question may be flawed.
