how to transfer backup data from main HDD after boot drive failure to new boot drive

my 120gb ssd crashed and was running weekly backups to my 1tb hard drive.
how do i transfer the backed up data onto my new 160gb HDD?
i just want a separate boot drive but ive already installed windows onto the 1tb HDD as i needed it for work, so ill need to transfer the bakup data onto the new drive and delete windows 7 and any basic apps ive installed (skype, chrome etc) from my main HDD.

You installed windows onto the 1TB drive that had the backup file on it? Did you reformat the drive first? Do you still see the backup files on the drive?

A) take 1TB use SATA to USB cable or ext HDD case to plug in externally
B) only 160GB drive in system, clean install Windows.
C) Install all apps and drivers first.
D) then perform RESTORE from the BACKUP on the EXT 1TB to the PC

Then Tom Tancredi's advice is your best option.
