Hi,Is there like a VHS converter to PC? I have some VHS and some 8MM tapes that I would like to transfer to my PC but I have no player for them. Thank you in advance.

Solution
Without a player, you will have to take it to a store that does transfers to CDROM/DVD. Most photo stores do this service. Some places that have film kiosks offer it as well. The least expensive route is to Google "VHS to DVD conversion" and "8MM to DVD conversion". Internet prices may be less expensive, but you have to ship the items.

There is a few options.

1) Try your local video stores, if you have any left, and see if any do conversion. There are services in almost every country worldwide so if your town doesn't have one, look around the net for something in your area. I have several in my town and they do everything from 8/16 mm to SVCD converted to DVD / Blu-ray. This is the easiest way, but it can get expensive fast if you have 50+ to convert.

2) Buy a VHS - DVD recorder. This will get your VHS converted and you can find the machines for about $150. But I haven't seen one for 8mm.

3) Rent a VCR from somewhere and pick up a USB capture device (most electronics / office supply stores sell them). The capture devices go for under $50. But again for 8mm there is no option that I know of other than super8 camcorders with firewire out.

Good luck. I'd personally just pay a conversion service to get it put to DVD. And spend the extra money to get a editable (.avi or whatever) copy as well, as you may want to edit and tweak.

Thanks guys. All suggestions appreciated. Just want to point out that I want to do the same service as these stores. I am looking into doing this as a job so it won't be for 1 or 2 times. Probably to get a VHS player is the best bet and maybe buying a small used 8MM video cam. Thanks again.
