You have a TotoLink router - correct?

Who has full admin rights to the router?

You will need help from that person.

I have full admin rights, if only I could understand where you apply what is required, without bringing down the entire network.

Don't think I'll ever understand why the gamer is to be bothered by this, but just for good measure I'll see if I can get in contact with the network support team, My previous connection did not have such issues and all online gaming ran smooth all the time, somehow this is the effect I long for again.

There are dependencies when it comes to establishing NAT types.

Before you do anything you need to do some reading and tailored research relevant to your network and gaming environment.

For starting purposes, just as examples and not necessarily solutions:

https://portforward.com/nat-types/

https://www.top10vpn.com/guides/how-to-change-your-nat-type/

https://support.activision.com/articles/port-forward-and-nat-faq

There are many similar links to be found.

Do your own online search starting with "what is strict nat type" or words/phrasing applicable to your network and gaming environment.

First, ensure that you fully understand your current configuration.

Second, identify potential changes or means to undo the Strict NAT setting and where that needs to be accomplished.

Third, make a change and only change one thing at a time. Keep notes on what you change, the original configuration, the new configuration, and where the change was made. Allow time between changes. Be prepared to go back and undo any given change if things go astray.

If you are unsure about what to do then post additional images of the applicable/appropriate router admin windows.

This router:

https://www.syntech.co.za/product/t...-x-lan-1-x-wan-4-x-antenna-1-x-usb2-0-router/

Correct?

Verify that I correctly identified the router. Go to the manufacturer's website and download the User Guide/Manual.

The User Guide should provide the necessary steps to configure NAT as required.

[Note: Do be careful about other sites offering the User Guide/Manual. A couple of sites triggered my AV protections]

Right so my service provider support came back to me and say they have given my network a static ip, I suppose that's similar to a public ip address and without having this is what was causing the NAT restrictions or strict NAT in online games.

FYI:

https://www.moval.edu/strict-nat-faq/#:~:text=With a STRICT NAT type,devices) report a STRICT NAT.

Probably not directly applicable to your network environment. However, the link does provide a bit of an overview regarding NAT.

Another link with more explanation:

https://www.purevpn.com/blog/nat-types/

Note the Comparison of NAT Types chart.

So whatever your service provider did reconciled the communications between the devices/platforms involved.

To understand it all fully it is very likely that some Before and After chart of the NAT configurations will be needed. As a starting point....

Even if you have a public IP many times you need to do configuration on your router depending on the game. There is a huge amount of misinformation on various gaming forums reguarding port forwarding. Many of these people posting this garbage do not understand when you need to actual port forward and when the port must just allowed though a firewall. Almost no router or pc is running firewall software that would block anything in the first place.

What I would first try is to turn on what is called UPnP. UPnP was designed to solve this issue and is mainly used by console games but certain other games can use it. This many times is disabled on routers because if you would get malware on your pc it could manipulate the router to allow more attacks on your internal machines. Not a huge risk but many people do not have the nat issue so it is disabled by default.

So if that doesn't work you then try port forwarding. The method that will give you open nat for sure is to use the DMZ option but your machine is now also "open" to be attacked from the internet also. Better to use portforwarding of the actual ports but it can be tricky to get the actual list and you do not want to open ports that are not actually required because that too allows hacks. It is very hard to find real lists of ports, too many dumb gamers do google search and then repost information that is bad when they have no actual knowledge themselves.

Having a (static ip on my external network) has mitigated my network for online gaming to become moderate NAT, instead of the previous unplayable Strict NAT.

I booted up GTA V online again, and the NAT restriction msg was gone, I played for a good few hours and no undesirable disconnects or such occurred.

I'd say this was what was needed on my network to undo the strict NAT.
