how to unfreeze a hard drive on windows 7

i was about to change my hard disc password on my acer but I can't access a it its says is frozen

I've been having a problem error coming up when I want to scan and save, or just save, a document or picture to my partitioned hard drive. Get error message saying "F: drive corrupted and unable to read"
To fix, I go to start button bottom left, co up to "computer", right click on it, then when all the computer drives come up, right click on my partitioned one, which is F:, a box will drop down, then click properties, go to tools, and top part of next window, where it says 'Error checking" and click the check now box. You need to shut down any open programs,you may lose stuff.This works,but prob comes back.still looking.
