How to unregister unknown 1st user 1st Generation Nook that is already regstered

I was gifted a 1st Gen Nook Reader from an Unclaimed Baggage sale. The reader is already registered to the 1st owner. How do I unregister or reset? Already tried factory reset, it hasn't worked. I kept the sku sticker on the reader as i didn't want to be wrongfully accused of stealing it. Don't mind sharing pics of it. Thanks
