how to update bios

hello gurus..im building a new pc using haswell proce and i think my mobo needs a bios update first to be able to support the proce..i download (using a different pc) the bios update and save it in my external hdd..can i update the bios using my external harddrive ..im confused. my mobo is ECS H81H3-M4 GL V1.04

it has a bios update utility built in, it may explain it in the manual.

What bios do you already have installed? You might just need to configure your processor. Just open bios and find out what version and type you have.
