hi everyone so im having trouble flashing the bios of my sabretooth mk2 ive downloaded the latest bios via the asus website which is bios version 2702 im currently running 2601 but every time i select the file from my usb drive it says "selected file is not a proper bios" and fails.

When extracted does the file need to be renamed to "Z97ST2.CAP" ,after this put it on the empty usb stick, only then will it be recognized by the "ASUS EZ Flash" in the bios/eufi.
If already on the stick renaming it should be fine before using it.

so i renamed the file to "Z97ST2.CAP" id already extracted it, placed it on to my usb drive which is formatted to fat32, now it detects the drive and bios file while in ezflash but still gives me the error of "selected file is not a proper bios" im really stuck 🙁 i was hoping by flashing to the latest bios version it would fix the problem my RX480 is having in the Primary PCIE slot, it crashes but only while using that lane (my old 290 works fine with it) i seriously hope i can fix this because atm i can only run on x8 mode with the second slot

Redownload the right file, recreate that usb stick and put it unpacked (not as the zip file it comes as!) on the stick, try again.
You can also try the next way to update,
https://www.google.nl/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjBtZbxrojSAhWJrxoKHXKLC78QFggaMAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fevent.asus.com%2F2012%2Fmb%2FUSB_BIOS_Flashback_GUIDE%2F&usg=AFQjCNEkwJdfYMSLyxKuYbRdHKsraoV0rA&bvm=bv.146786187,d.d2s
use the right usb slot at the back i/o,look in the manual for which one.Let us know if you can't find out which one by posting back.

It won't work if you are selecting the USB drive in EZ Flash 2. You need to double click on the BIOS file that is in the USB drive. Just selecting the USB drive is not enough.

You should be using a small capacity USB 2.0 drive FAT32 formatted. Use a rear USB 2.0 port.

ive tried what you suggested vic, Reformated the stick to fat32 and downloaded the bios file again from the asus website. i extracted the file to the stick and renamed it. inserted the stick into the bios flashback port and the IO and powered off the system, held the button for 3 seconds till it blinks and released it, it then flashes a few times and the light stays on. i left it for 15 minutes to see if it would go off and it didnt, also made sure i removed any other usb peripherals before trying the flash. im still stuck at bios version 2061 🙁

ok guys so i think ive had a moment of stupidness it appears that the sabertooth z97 mk2 and sabertooth z97 mk3 usb 3.1 are two different boards? i have the usb 3.1 version and according to the asus website the latest bios is version 2702 so im guessing ill have to rename that differently?

Repeat the steps as before to update. Only this time use the correct BIOS for your motherboard.

Things like this can easily happen. Don't feel bad. Just learn from it.

Good luck and let us know if you were successful or not.
