So I'm going to upgrade from i3 2100 to i5 3570 for my gtx 960 par with 8gb ram, so my problem is do I just replace my cpu? no uninstalling or something? do I need fresh os install? I mean can I just pull out the i3 2100 put in the i5 3570 and I'm good to go?

Solution
Yes. You would carefully remove the old cpu. Clean the old paste off of the cooler with at least 90% isopropyl alcohol. Put the new cpu in. Apply new paste. reattach cooler. Done. Be very careful when removing the old cpu and putting the new one in. There are a lot of pins underneath the cpu, and if even one gets bent or broken, you are buying a new MOBO. Very easy to replace a cpu. But at the same time, the pins are very fragile.

check with the mb vendor make sure first you have the newest bios on the mb. the mb will have the newest cpu and ram code. also look under cpu qal list make sure the new cpu is listed. what you need is some paper towels and rubbing alcohale and if your reusing an after market cpu cooler you need a tube of thermal paste. when you take off the cpu cooler on the old cpu you have to wipe off the old thermal paste so you cna put the old cpu in a anti static baggy or case. if not the old thermal paste will get on the cpu pins. after the old cpu comes out check for any bent cpu pins on the mb with a led flashlight. if there fine drop in the new cpu and lock it down. if your using the new cpu cooler that comes with the i5 just pull off the plastic covering the theraml paste and lock it down. if your using an after market cooler then add new paste to the top of the cpu and lock the cooler down.
